Diagnosis… and back again

To help raise money for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation, Dan and I will be attempting to run* in the 2019 City2Surf. To further promote the event, the team at Cure Brain Cancer asked me to write a piece about how the diagnosis has changed our lives.

The past 11 months have presented us with some challenges, but writing this piece helped me realise how far we have come, but also how far we have yet to go. In his last publication, When Breath Becomes Air, Paul Kalanithi describes his own reaction to his terminal diagnosis –

I began to realise that coming in such close contact with my own mortality had changed both nothing and everything. Before my Cancer was diagnosed, I knew I would die, but I didn’t know when. But now I knew it acutely. The problem wasn’t really a scientific one. The fact of death is unsettling. Yet there is no other way to live.

I have not expressed my experience as eloquently as Paul, but nonetheless, you can find my article here

*Dan will be running – I will be limping between drink stops.
